The Art Studio is open daily from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.  Children and their adults are encouraged to drop in and create artwork together!

To kick off our Transportation theme this month, we are providing information on how materials, people, and animals are transported.   A large packing crate will be in the studio the entire month and the children will be encouraged to draw a picture answering the question, “What is in that crate?”  We are also focusing on transportation as it relates to going to school.  Other ongoing projects are “Painting the Castle Playhouse” and “Playing in the Puppet Theatre Barn.”  We are also providing a table of CMoP books and toys.  Following are the new projects introduced each week.

 August 31st through September 5th:  Make a silly “Monster Bookmark” for that favorite book you are reading.

September  6th through September 12th:  Create a gift for that special grandparent for Grandparents’ Day on September 12th.  All the materials are provided to make a refrigerator magnet containing a special poem for grandma and grandpa. 

September 14th through September 19th: “The Wheels of the Bus Go Round and Round!”  After reading poems about riding the bus, have fun creating your own school bus with the people in it.

 September 21st through September 26th: “Stop, Go, And Slow!”  Traffic lights are important in keeping us safe when walking to school.  Read poetry about traffic lights.  Then review the colored lights by making a traffic light.

September 28th through October 3rd: Zoom! – Moving through the City.”  We are observing the painting “Broadway Boogie-Woogie” by the Dutch artist, Piet Mondrian.  Inspired by New York City, it creates a sense of movement with red, yellow, blue, and black geometric shapes.  Create your own cityscape using those colored geometric shapes in a collage.

Children will have a blast using recycled toy wheels of all shapes and sizes to make their own unique prints on paper.

Join us as we learn the techniques of infant massage during this 4-week course designed for caregivers and infants!  Regularly providing an infant with the loving touch of massage benefits not just the infant, but the caregiver as well.  Through touch, the infant will learn the comfort of being loved and the caregiver will feel the deepening of his/her bond with the baby.  The infant experiences lower stress hormone levels, enhanced digestion, a strengthened immune system, relief from discomfort associated with gas, teething, colic & constipation, along with numerous other benefits.  Caregivers find their confidence is raised and parenting skills enhanced, as well as an increase in production of prolactin (the ‘nurturing hormone’), reduced risk of post-partum depression, advanced development of pre-verbal communication with their infant, and attachment which fosters optimal brain development.

Caregivers should feel free to bring their infant to class or use one of our lifelike dolls.  Please bring a change of clothes and diaper for the infant, as well as a comfortable blanket for the baby to lie on during the class.  Attendees will be provided with Toesies to Nosies massage oil as well as an instructional manual and supporting research.  The class will be taught by Toesies to Nosies founder Marti Yates, a certified massage therapist and infant massage instructor (CIMI).  Admission into the program is $100 for this 4-week course (9/9, 9/16, 9/23 & 9/30).  Space is limited. Please click here to register.

  September 25, 2010 Get Ready to Read!: Early Literacy Screening for 3-5 year olds 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM

 

Is your child ready for Kindergarten? Get Ready to Read! is an early literacy program designed to help parents ensure that young children are equipped with the fundamental skills necessary for learning to read.  The goal of Get Ready to Read! is to screen 3 - 5 year olds for pre-reading skills before they enter kindergarten and provide skill-strengthening activities to ensure their reading success.  Each screening takes about 10 minutes and the kids walk away with pre-reading exercises as well as a free book. Join us as we learn the techniques of infant massage during this 4-week course designed for caregivers and infants!  Regularly providing an infant with the loving touch of massage benefits not just the infant, but the caregiver as well.  Through touch, the infant will learn the comfort of being loved and the caregiver will feel the deepening of his/her bond with the baby.  The infant experiences lower stress hormone levels, enhanced digestion, a strengthened immune system, relief from discomfort associated with gas, teething, colic & constipation, along with numerous other benefits.  Caregivers find their confidence is raised and parenting skills enhanced, as well as an increase in production of prolactin (the ‘nurturing hormone’), reduced risk of post-partum depression, advanced development of pre-verbal communication with their infant, and attachment which fosters optimal brain development.

Caregivers should feel free to bring their infant to class or use one of our lifelike dolls.  Please bring a change of clothes and diaper for the infant, as well as a comfortable blanket for the baby to lie on during the class.  Attendees will be provided with Toesies to Nosies massage oil as well as an instructional manual and supporting research.  The class will be taught by Toesies to Nosies founder Marti Yates, a certified massage therapist and infant massage instructor (CIMI).  Admission into the program is $100 for this 4-week course (9/9, 9/16, 9/23 & 9/30).  Space is limited. Please click here to register.
