We are thrilled to present "Born to Bloom", a series by @flygirlprints, in the Art Studio! 🌵🌼
"As a second-generation Phoenician, my artwork is rooted in the Valley. When I create, I draw inspiration from the Sonoran Desert: its layered landscapes, vibrant skies, and the distinct silhouettes of mountains and native plants.
My culture is central to my work. I depict and personify women through hairstyles that are deeply iconic and recognizable within Black culture: Bantu knots, Afro-puffs, and locs. I also incorporate tools of care and styling, like afro-picks and hot combs, as symbols of identity, ritual, and history.
My work lives at the intersection of the Southwest and Black hair culture, where I explore themes of belonging, resilience, and peace. Within this space, I build visual narratives that honor both place and heritage." - Kelvonnah A. Stidhum, Fly Girl Prints
