This Indigenous Peoples’ Day, the Museum celebrates the original stewards of the land where the Museum is now located, as well as the boundless creativity and imagination of young artists.

Located in the 3rd floor hallway, the trio of turtles represents Turtle Island, originating from Indigenous belief and creation stories, that the world or North America formed on a turtle's back. Turtles generally represent healing, wisdom, health, safety, longevity, and protection. This collaborative project invited Museum visitors to create a design on hexagonal shapes to resemble a turtle's shell.

Curated by artist Shyra John @shymothcreations

We respectfully acknowledge that the Children’s Museum of Phoenix is located on the traditional lands of the Akimel O’odham (Pima). We recognize, celebrate, and honor the diverse ancestry of the Indigenous peoples of modern-day Arizona; being the original stewards of this land, they are an important part of our history, present, and future. As an arts, culture, and educational organization, we are committed to preserving and uplifting multi-generational contributions through our programs and exhibits.
