✨ New Installation Spotlight ✨
This newly installed sculpture draws inspiration from the Los Diablos Danzantes de Yare, a Venezuelan tradition recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Known for their striking masks and symbolic power, these figures represent resilience, ritual, and cultural identity.
Created as a self-portrait, Sawyer Boyd crafted the piece from recycled skate decks sourced from Cowtown Skateboards in Tempe, with every scuff and mark telling a story of persistence and growth. The glowing horns—made from colorful argon-filled glass—symbolize the merging of American and Venezuelan heritage, while also highlighting the wear earned through repeated attempts and failures. Like skate culture itself, the work celebrates progress over perfection, reminding us that mastery is built through resilience.
