Frida Kahlo was a Mexican artist known for her self-portraits, she said, “I paint myself because I know myself best.” Can you create a self-portrait by drawing yourself? Use the mirrors at our Star Bar to create your own self-portrait for Hispanic Heritage Month.

 

Sept. 16th – 21st

Celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month by making your very own Papel Picado Banner in the Art Studio!

 

Sept. 23rd – 28th

Create a surrealist collage using famous Spanish artist, Salvador Dali and his paintings, as inspiration in the Art Studio.

 

Sept. 30th – Oct. 5th

Guatemalan Barriletes – Build your own colorful kite like those from the Giant Kite Festival in Guatemala.

 

Oct. 6th – 12th

Be inspired by Pablo Picasso in the Art Studio! Create a colorful collage using simple geometric shapes, string and more!

Harmony Project Phoenix Concert

At this special concert, Harmony Project Phoenix proudly presents the talents of their young musicians from three vibrant ensembles. The ECO Program introduces early childhood students to the joy of music through a bilingual approach, using recycled materials to explore rhythm, melody, and creativity. The Mariachi Ensemble celebrates the rich traditions of Mexican music, bringing to life beloved songs that honor cultural identity and community pride. The Latino Caribeña Ensemble fills the stage with the lively rhythms of salsa, cumbia, and merengue, showcasing the diversity of Latin American and Caribbean sounds. Together, these ensembles embody Harmony Project Phoenix’s mission: building community, fostering culture, and transforming lives through the power of music. Aguas Frescas with Edible Ed! | 10:30am & 12:00pm

Let’s wrap up Hispanic Heritage Month with a refreshing celebration! Join Edible Ed in the KIDchen to mash, mix, and sip your own delicious aguas frescas, a traditional fruit drink enjoyed across Latin America. This hands-on activity is a tasty way to honor culture, explore flavors, and celebrate together. Admission into this program is free with paid Museum admission. Space is limited. Please register at admissions upon arrival; first come, first serve.

Merry Maracas | 1:00pm

Let’s wrap up Hispanic Heritage Month by celebrating music and tradition! Kids will learn about the cultural importance of maracas and their role in Latin music, then create their own colorful maraca to take home. It’s a lively way to honor heritage, spark creativity, and keep the rhythm of culture alive through hands-on play.
